Changes to Permanent Orders FAQs
Serving Detroit, Ann Arbor and all of Michigan
How can a permanent order be changed?
You can petition the court to have a permanent order modified if either you or your former spouse has had a significant change in your circumstances. This may include changes to living arrangements, employment, location, or salary, for example.
To determine whether you have grounds to request a change to a permanent order, call our child custody lawyer today to schedule a consultation.
Can I have an order changed retroactively? I'm out of work and behind in my child support.
No. Child support orders cannot be changed retroactively. For this reason, it is essential that you file for a change to your child support order immediately if you find yourself out of work or earning significantly less than you did when the order was issued.
What are grounds for having an alimony/maintenance order changed?
A permanent order can be changed any time a party involved experiences a significant change, such as a change in employment, income, family status, or living arrangements that might affect their status with the courts.
